A Site To See

Creating a website is a task itself, but creating a site for yourself is an even bigger task. Based on the photos and colors on my site, my page is a reflection of myself when I’m alone, calm yet colorful. I will use my website to show potential employers some of my work I’ve done through out my college career thus far. I will also use my website as a tool to display my creativity and technology skills to the world since making a website isn’t as it seems. My portfolio includes projects from video production, audio mixes from radio production and press stories from previous communication courses which ultimately shows how versatile I am in my major.
Previous social media projects like our Twitter or video project tie in with my website by including the links to my Twitter and Blogger which I created in class. By creating a Twitter, and Blogger account prior to this project, I finally understood the importance of professional presentation on social media. Having a professional profile on social media allows potential employers to have an idea of who you are before actually meeting you.
Building the site overall was fun, learning how to build my own website using software was amazing. Learning new software was frustrating at times however with patience and a focused mindset, the project was pretty successful. Before we actually started using the application, we drew designs of our potential pages and critiqued them in class to see which design was best. Dreamweaver seemed a bit confusing in the beginning, there were so many steps for different parts of the site, it was important to take notes for everything. Professor Pabico also posted tutorials on BlackBoard which were very helpful. I was bit overwhelmed when I tried to design my site on my own, even with the tutorials I still needed guidance from a professional to make sure I did everything right.

I decided to use the template provided in class as an example when we initially got the assignment. It seemed easier grasp onto and it fit my vision for my site. I wanted my site to make a statement but be simple, which is the perfect way to describe myself. I used a black background because of it’s simplicity and versatility. My header is photo of the Seven Chakras which represents the centres in our body where energy flows through. My biggest goal in life right now is to remain focused and be surrounded by good energy. The header represents everything I want to achieve this summer so I can have a prosperous senior year. I used sky blue and pink for the font on my site because it’s bright and also serves as a great contrast to my background color. I decided to use my audio and video production assignments from previous semesters for my portfolio because it shows my growth as a student. I’ve taken a variety courses so my portfolio is versatile.
